Llandudno 38 Rhuthun 12

Both sides were eager to stamp their authority on this game on a warm afternoon in Llandudno but with better handling and greater composure it was the home side that came away with an emphatic win.  Llandudno were first with points on the board after 15 minutes with an unconverted try.  The Blues responded but even though the home side went down to 14 men for a while they were unable to score.  Dudno were always strong in attack and although visitors defended well against Dudno’s strong running backs after 30 mins the home side got over the line once again with a converted try.  The Blues responded again and full back Jamie Jones went over the whitewash and converted his try.  Dudno however went back on to the attack and just before half time scored a converted try and the score was 19-7 to Dudno at the break.  Immediately after the break the home side scored again. Despite the Blues at least equalling the home side’s territory and possession solid home side defence, handling errors and perhaps over eagerness prevented any rewards and it was Dudno who scored again putting the score at 31-7.  Finally  a Blues attack in the second half resulted in points with a pushover try for prop Garry Teeson but it was the home side that grabbed the last of the scores with another converted try. Llandudno’s try scorers were Ryan Pike (2), Lloyd Griffith, Lewis Griffith and Sam McKean (2) with Pike getting all the conversions.  This was a well-deserved win for Llandudno but Ruthin probably equalled them in possession, territory and spirit.  The Blues will need  improved handling and composure for next week’s game at Bala and if they can achieve that we should be in for an exciting game.
