Ruthin got a much needed winner’s bonus point in this fast moving and exciting game against Llandudno at Cae Ddol. Both sides started with urgency and after play had moved from end to end in the first few minutes the Blues won a penalty in Dudno’s 22 which wing Nathan Jones slotted over. The visitors responded and after 10 minutes the visitors’ Lloyd Griffith intercepted a pass in Ruthin’s 22 and went over the whitewash for an easy try between the posts and Cameron Davies converted. The Blues had to defend well against a concerted Dudno attack and the visitors’ missed an opportunity to go further ahead with a missed penalty goal and almost scored again in a ball chase with Dudno knocking on on the try line. The pressure was released and it was Llandudno’s turn to defend as the Blues launched an onslaught into their 22. With the Blues’ ascendancy in the scrum the visitors were forced into errors and eventually scrum half Cai Edwards nipped over the line from a penalty and Nathan Jones converted. The whistle blew for half time with Ruthin 13-7 ahead. After the break the Blues were back on the attack and after about 7 minutes drove over the line from a 22 lineout with prop Jason Humphreys getting the try and Nathan converting. The visitors returned to the attack and Ruthin had to defend hard to prevent them reducing the arrears. It was then the Blues’ turn to take advantage of an interception and wing Huw Parry ran the length of the field from his own 22 finally passing to centre Iestyn Davies who scored with Nathan converting. Again the visitors tried to narrow the gap before the play moved into their half and in the 79th minute Joe Mault turned the ball over and chipped to Huw Parry who took it into Dudno’s 22 and after recycling via Sion Roberts and Cai Edwards was offloaded to Iestyn for his 2nd try with Nathan converting.
