Ruthin 25 Bala 25

In an exciting encounter at Cae Ddol Ruthin came from 18-3 down at half time and 14 men to draw against Bala 25-25.  Bala were first with points on the board with a penalty goal in the first few minutes and the Blues evened things up after 10 minutes with a kick from 2nd row Deian Lloyd Williams.  Bala began to pressurise the home side’s line and this was finally rewarded with an unconverted try.  Play was oscillating from end to end with Bala looking dangerous and after 35 minutes Ruthin went down to 14 men after a red card.  The visitors took immediate advantage and scored a converted try quickly followed by a penalty goal putting them 18-3 ahead at the break.  The Blues came out of the blocks after half time in fighting mode and after a period camped on Bala’s line centre Kyle Davies scored a fine try converted by Lloyd Williams.  The Blues kept up the pressure and the pack drove over for a 2nd try with 2nd row Chris Lewis getting the honours.  At 18-15 the game was anybody’s and it was Bala that widened the gap with another converted try.  The crowd probably thought the game was over but in an inspired last 5 minutes Lloyd Williams kicked a penalty goal and then winger Cai Davies ran the length of the field kicked forward over the try line and jumped on to the ball and Lloyd Williams converted with the last kick of the match.  The match saw the most spirited display by Ruthin 1sts this season and bodes well for their future matches.
