Rhuthun 2nds 50 Pwllheli 2nds 10

On a wind swept day at Cae Ddol, Pedr Jones troops welcomed the visitors from Pwllheli, with Ruthin 2nds looking to maintain their 100 per cent league record. Having identified some tough games in the next fortnight Ruthin opted to rotate the squad and provide some valuable game time to the youth team and fringe players. This meant a weekend off for regular skipper Joe Mault, although the consensus post game was that he had probably contributed more from the sidelines than he usually does on the pitch.

Ruthin started with a bang, led by their ‘Trio of Parry’s’ each of whom was trying to outdo the other in their personal battle to be awarded the hot shower on offer back at the farm that evening. Tudur Parry put in some solid early running which led to an opening try for Bryn Edwards which was converted by Steffan Parry. Ruthin continued to be ruthless for the first 20 mins, with the Tudur Parry show in full flow, he scored an outstanding individual effort in the corner before offloading to wing Jake Lloyd who dived over to make it 17-0.

Ruthin’s bonus point try soon followed with the try of the day. Huw Parry broke down the wing and looked to be clear before he was caught from behind by the Pwllheli Prop. He managed to offload to his brother Steff Parry thou who scored under the posts and couldn’t miss the conversion to make it 24-3. Ruthin managed two more scores before the break firstly through Ynyr Roberts who had another classy performance and then Captain Huw Parry finishing off a backs move. Half time came with the score at 38-3 and one try a piece for the Parry Boys...

To their credit Pwllheli came out fighting in the second half and scored first and also converted from the touchline. Ruthin were struggling to hit the heights of the first half and some wayward kicking from Steff Parry in the gusty winds wasn’t helping matters. Down to the last match ball after losing the other 3 into the nearby Duck Pond Ruthin realised they needed to keep the ball in hands. Some better phase play for the final 10 mins saw a further 2 tries for fans favourite and ‘man mountain’ John Mawr.

The final score was 50-10 and a solid performance by the men in blue and white. Next Saturday they travel to Mold 2nds for the eagerly awaited ‘Moel Famau Derby’.

Man of the Match was Tudur Parry
