Dinbych 10 Rhuthun 34

In this pacey derby game Dinbych withstood some early pressure from Rhuthun and then after 5 minutes got the first score on the board when winger Aidyn Jones collected the ball from a kick upfield, raced along the touchline and scored in the corner.  The visitors responded and within a further five minutes, after pressure from the Blues pack, flanker Matt Roberts evened up the score with an unconverted try.  Rhuthun had to defend against the home side in their own 22 but cleared their lines and after a lineout in Dinbych’s half went ahead when centre Harri Morgan broke through the home side defence for a try converted by full back Nathan Jones.  Dinbych scored again almost immediately when Jones intercepted a Rhuthun ball and almost identically to his first try sped along the wing and scored an unconverted try in the corner.  Rhuthun were 12-10 ahead but Dinbych were providing stiff opposition and were defending well against the visitors’ attempts to widen the gap.  Eventually Rhuthun’s pack drove over Dinbych’s line and Matt scored his second try.  The game was playing out in midfield for a while as both sides tried to gain ascendancy and then after a searing run by wing Josh Wilson only stopped by a Dinbych tackler pushing him into touch on their 22 Rhuthun piled on the pressure and finally the ball was passed to full back Dyfan Humphreys who got the Blues bonus point try 2 minutes before half time.   Although Rhuthun were 22-10 ahead as the 2nd half started Dinbych were tough competitors and the game was by no means won.  For the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half defences were in the ascendancy and there was no further score.  Dinbych missed a chance to narrow the gap when a penalty goal kick went wide and it wasn’t until the Rhuthun pack drove from a lineout in their own half and Morgan opened up the Dinbych defence that hooker Owain Jones was able to score between the posts with Nathan converting.  The final try came after 66 minutes play when Morgan again ran at the Dinbych defence releasing Nathan to go over the whitewash.  Although Dinbych returned to the attack in the final 10 minutes the Blues defence held and the whistle blew with Rhuthun winning 34-10.
