Rhuthun 2nds 41 Dinbych 2nds 10

Ruthin 2nds ended 2019 with an emphatic victory over their local rivals Denbigh winning, 41 - 10.

The game started with Ruthin being very dominant in set piece yet again. The division 3 side are becoming well known for their set pieces and the first try came from a mauling lineout deep within the Denbigh 22 and an unknown forward scored, but Dwayne Speakman took the credit for the try. Unfortunately,  the conversion was not successful.

Denbigh came back straight away with a penalty  which gave them confidence for further scores. The away side were giving a good account of themselves but the Ruthin defence stood strong with some excellent tackling from the whole team.

The next score came from the evergreen Huw Parry who latched onto a spectacular pass and danced his way through the Denbigh defence to score in the corner. Deian Lloyd Williams slotted the conversion but then wanted to show his own running ability and after the restart, Williams dashed down the wing, handing off a number of Denbigh defenders to score himself in the same corner as Huw Parry. The icing on the cake was Deian converted his own try.

Further scores again came from  Huw Parry and Deian Lloyd Williams however after the score from Huw Parry, a Denbigh player pushed Parry and Chris Lewis asked  the Denbigh player for a high five. For their troubles, the referee decided they might want to continue their conversation on the sidelines and gave them both a yellow card.

Penalties started to mount up for the home side and during a strong defensive display, captain Joe Mault was sin binned for ill discipline. During the subsequent play, Denbigh scored their only try with only 13 Ruthin players on the pitch.

Not to finish on a negative,  Ruthin returned to full complement of players and launched a flurry of attacking play. To the joy of the home side, Jake Lloyd who was a former Denbigh player scored following a sweeping move from the backs.

The forwards wanted to have the last word and from a 5 metre scrum they pushed over the Denbigh try line, however the spritely scrum half Ifan Clwyd took advantage of the forwards efforts to score the try himself.

Next week the top of the table Ruthin 2nds travel to the Majorca of North Wales to take on the elusive Llangefni.
