Rhuthun 2nds 28 Menai Bridge 1sts 10

After an important win in the last league game against Holyhead, Ruthin 2nds wanted to ensure they carried on their winning streak against another island team this weekend versus Menai Bridge.

The game started with some good play from both sides however it was clear early on that Ruthin were going to be dominant at set piece with the scrum in particular impressive for the home side.

The first score came from a mauling lineout deep within the Menai Bridge half before Dillon Edward's broke away jinking his way through a number of tackles to score under the posts..

The second score came again from a dominant set piece as a scrum  5 metres out from the try line was duly pushed over and Number 8 Brynach Edward's touching down.

With two scores in the bag, yet again Ruthin fell victim to complacency and allowed Menai Bridge to come back into the game with a penalty.  This score, although only a penalty, gave great confidence to the away side and they continued to hammer the Ruthin defence.

To the credit of the home side's defence it held strong and some fantastic individual attacking breaks allowed Ruthin to score their next try. Scrum half Deian William's was playing well and was literally running rings around some of the opposition and also confusing his team mates at times. The calming tones of outside half Steff Parry marshalled the backs well to create a sweeping move to score in the corner through Ynyr Robert's.

Discipline once again was to be an issue for the home side with yellow cards shown for Tom Crawford and Deian Williams. After the game the management team said they will be looking at fines at the upcoming Christmas Party to ensure that the discipline record is improved in the 2nd half of the season. The ill-discipline allowed Menai to score a rumbling forwards try near the posts and it was duly converted.

Finally, not to miss out on the scoring and to clinch the bonus point win, Huw Parry latched onto a magic pass from Jaime Chips to score in the corner with Deian William's converting.

Final score 28 - 10

Next up for Ruthin in Flint away in two weeks time, which is promised to be a thriller and a difficult game for the top of the table team.
