Rhuthun 2nds 34 Mold 2nds 6

In a game that was very scrappy typical of local derbies, Ruthin 2nds were triumphant over a well organised Mold side, 34 - 6.

The game started with a penalty to Ruthin early on allowing the home side to establish good field position 5 metres from the Mold tryline. The resulting lineout allowed second row, Eoin Kent, to score Ruthin's first try. With such an early score,  Ruthin became confident however the experienced Mold side were persistent in their efforts making the game a good contest.

A couple of penalties each were then scored with the boot as poor discipline was costing both sides.

With the game in balance, Ruthin forwards were determined to take control of the game. With set plays being consistently impressive and dominant, the platform gave Steff Parry the opportunity to score the second try and converting his own efforts. The sides went in at half time , 15 – 3 to Ruthin.

Ruthin forwards continued to dominate Mold in the second half even when changes were made to the pack - clearly showing the strength in depth that Ruthin has as a club currently even though its early on in the season. Again taking advantage of the forwards strength up front, Steff Parry was able to throw an outrageous dummy to skip over to the try line to score his second try.

Not to miss out on the fun, Tudur Parry capped off a great performance by scoring an excellent individual try. Picking up from the base of the scrum, Parry outpaced the Mold backrow and fended off the remaining defence to score in the corner.

The most popular try of the day was still to come. John Mawr came on as a late substitute for captain Joe Mault and immediately made an impact. The mountain of a man was hitting rucks like a man possessed, and his opportunity arose 5 metres out from the opposition try line. With a pick and go from a well-placed ruck, John Mawr  bulldozed over the line scoring his try to the complete elation of his teammates, the management team and the home crowd.

With the game finishing 34 - 6, Ruthin 2nds are in confident mood and next week they are in cup action vs Holyhead - hopefully their trip to the island can be as triumphant.
