Ruthin 2nds secured a bonus point victory against local rivals Denbigh on Saturday afternoon.

The first 20 mins saw Ruthin doing all the attacking. Scrum Half Mei Ellis opened the scoring with a sublime blindside snipe catching the Denbigh defence off guard before sprinting away to score. The lead then became 10-0 to Ruthin with a fine try by the backs. Fullback Jordan Oldbury coming into the line and taking a couple of Denbigh defenders with him before off-loading to Arfon Thomas to score in the corner.

As the half wore on Denbigh came back into the game and took advantage of some sloppy Ruthin defending to score a converted try under the posts. A Llion Edwards penalty just before the half time whistle then brought the scores level at 10-10.

The 2nd half began as the first finished with Denbigh on top. A further Llion Edwards penalty put Denbigh ahead for the first time 13-10. It was time for Ruthin's players to stand up and be counted. The forwards led by club legend Gary Teeson began to turn the screw. After a number of scrum penalties Ruthin kicked for the corner. From the resulting lineout it was Teeson who burrowed over from short range and Ruthin were back in the lead.

Ruthin sealed the win in the dying minutes. Another powerful scrum took Ruthin to within a couple of metres. After a few phases it was Dwayne Speakman Jones who touched down to secure the bonus point and the win for the blues. Jordan Oldbury nailed the conversion to make the final score 22-13.

Ruthin's Man of the Match was scrum half Mei Ellis.
