Croesyceiliog 17 Rhuthun 33

After some doubt as to whether Ruthin would make it through the snow to Croesyceiliog for their Round 3 WRU Plate match, the team and trusty band of supporters all arrived safely and came away with a great win.  On a snow-free and soft pitch the Blues were first with points on the board after 5 minutes with a pushover try by hooker Danny Miller from a lineout on the home side’s 22 with fly half Nathan Jones converting.  Croesyceiliog immediately counter attacked and within 3 minutes Rhys Wells was over the Ruthin try line for an unconverted try. In this fast moving game the Blues were back on the attack and after 20 minutes play centres Emyr Gwynedd and Dafydd Lloyd combined to put wing Josh Wilson through for a fine try converted by Nathan.  Within 5 minutes the Blues had another converted try when after some great phase player wing Gethin Hughes burst over the whitewash with Nathan converting.  At 21-5 to the visitors one might have thought that the game was over but within 5 minutes the home side came back with two tries by Micky Witts with  one converted by Luke Brown.  At 21-17 there was all to play for.  The Blues tried to widen the gap with a penalty goal kick which went wide and then on the stroke of half time Ruthin put together some fine play to release Emyr Gwynedd through for their 4th try and a half time score of 26-17 to the visitors.  After the free scoring of the first half the second half was a different affair although equally enthralling.  For the first 20 minutes the Blues spent most of the time in the home side’s half with Croesyceiliog defending well but unable to take advantage when they cleared their lines.  Ruthin’s scrum was performing well and with effective kicking upfield into space or touch the Blues were controlling the game.  Eventually after more good play by the backs Josh Wilson scored in typical fashion after a great run down the touch line and Nathan converted.  Croesyceiliog tried to reduce the arrears but the Blues defence held and the whistle blew with Ruthin winning 33-17.
