Dinbych 2nds 3 Rhuthun 2nds 45

On an Indian Summers day in Denbigh, Ruthin 2nds dominated the home side to win the local derby 3 - 45.

Playing uphill in the first half, Ruthin played some attractive rugby and the forwards were utilising their assets scoring a pushover try by Danny Millar to break the deadlock. The incline soon took its toll and the local team used their experience to push Ruthin back into their own half, conceding penalties galore. The final blow was a yellow card for a Ruthin winger for a high tackle which meant there were 14 men running up the hill instead of 15 but the team survived to half time without serious damage.

At half time, Pedr Jones Ruthin 2nds Coach, delivered an inspirational and motivational speech which was generally taken on board by the team. After the break, the flood gates opened as Ruthin began to score tries easily and Tudur Parry, Dan Owen, Eti Fidow, Jamie 'chips' Jones and Ifan Clwyd helped themselves to the spoils.

The pick of the tries belonged to Huw Parry who finished off a fantastic team effort to score under the posts. From a restarting kick, Tudur Parry released captain Joe Mault who galloped a considerable and surprising distance and was tackled beyond the halfway line. The resulting ruck, quick hands from Danny Millar released Huw Parry who had picked a beautiful line to finish off a superb team effort. However the glory was somewhat tainted as the Denbigh fly half decided to discuss the recent drop in beef prices with Parry and Danny Millar and received a yellow card for his troubles.

Some members of the team had claimed they had scored a try and even the resulting celebrations could not convince the referee that Dwayne Speakman Jones had grounded the ball over the try line. This misunderstanding humoured the crowd.

Other highlights throughout the game was the immense scrummaging performance of the forwards and also the unique method the token Irishman, Eoin Kent, uses to catch a ball by using his feet first to do some keepy uppys before grasping the ball with his hands.

Lastly, man of the match belonged to Jamie 'chips' Jones as an almost perfect kicking display out of hand and only missing one of the conversions.

Next week Ruthin 2nds are at home to Llangefni 2nds.
