Rhuthun 21 Wrecsam 5

Ruthin came away with a win in this hard fought match in front of a good crowd at home on Wednesday evening.  The Blues started strongly but good defence by the visitors prevented them from scoring until fly half Phyl Roberts went over the line after 15 minutes with centre Nathan Jones converting.  Although Ruthin were moving the ball around well and spent most of the first third in Wrexham’s territory the visitors’ well organised and competent defence prevented any further score.  In the 2nd third the Blues continued to pressure and captain Jordan Jones increased the lead with Nathan converting.  Wrexham responded and it was the Blues turn to defend but the visitors got their reward with an unconverted try.  At 14-5 and just before the end of the second third Ruthin’s winger Josh Wilson burst through the Wrexham defence for the Blues third try which Nathan converted.  The last 20 minutes was pretty even with defences in the ascendancy and the game ended with the Blues 21-5 ahead.  This game was much more of a test for Ruthin than last Saturday’s at Colwyn Bay and sets them up well for their last pre-season match at COBRA on Saturday.
