Caernarfon 32 Rhuthun 8

On a breezy day, Ruthin elected to play up hill with wind to backs in this Conwy Landrover North Wales Plate semifinal. Although with a depleted squad of 16 Ruthin started brightly went three nil up from a penalty by flanker Deian Lloyd Williams after 10 mins.  Caernarfon came back and their winger scored a well worked try. Ruthin then took game to the Coffis with several phases of play orchestrated by veteran scrum half Rhys Hughes using forwards to work the blind side, ending up in slick handling move by backs and putting wing Kyle Davies in the corner for a try.

Ruthin battled on playing some spirited rugby against a large pack and pacey backs and held  their own. However the pace told after some loose clearance kicks with Caernarfon scoring again in the corner to make it 12-8 at half time.

In the second half Caernarfon changed tactics and using the wind at their backs playing up hill kicked and chased to great effect and secured three penalties all in quick succession which their number 15 converted pulling away from visitors. The home side then also scored another try of quality, handling and pace proving too much for a now tiring visitors. The Coffis then made 5 changes in one go and despite Ruthin making a determined effort and nearly coming close to scoring themselves, Caernarfon scored one more try to make final score 32- 8.

This has been a long and difficult season for Ruthin but the squad should be proud of how they played against a physically stronger and quicker team and showed that there is much potential in this young squad for next season.
