Rhuthun were dogged by mistakes and inability to capitalise on set pieces in the first half of this Specsavers Plate 1^st round match at Nant Conwy on Saturday.  After a rather scrappy 20 minutes Nant got points on the board with a try to which the Blues responded virtually straight away when fullback Nathan Jones burst over the try line.  Again the home side came back and the Blues were unable to defend from a Nant lineout 5 yards out and scored with fly half Jac Ellis converting.  Rhuthun went back on the attack and after an infringement in their 22 preventing an almost certain try the visitors. were awarded a penalty try.  Nant were moving the ball around the park well and after being awarded a penalty in the visitors 22 Ellis slotted the ball over the crossbar.  Rhuthun were still struggling in the set pieces and after losing the ball in their own line out Nant passed the ball out to the wing and scored.  The whistle blew for half time with Nant 22-12 ahead.  The second half was rather a different affair as the Blues tried to reduce the arrears and went on the attack.  Set pieces were much improved.  Much of the 3^rd quarter was spent in Nant’s half of the field but Rhuthun’s ability to score was restricted by them frequently conceding penalties and letting Nant clear their lines.  Eventually after 65 minutes play centre Emyr Gwynedd crossed the home side’s whitewash putting the Blues within 1 score of Nant.  Nant went back on the attack but the game was stopped after an injury to a Nant player.  After the restart Nant grabbed an additional 3 points with a penalty goal from Ellis and the final score was 28-17 to Nant.  Nant scorers were full back Elgan Roberts 2 tries, No8 Carwyn Ellis 1 try and fly half Jac Ellis 3 penalties and 2 conversions.
