Ruthin 2nds finally managed to play their first home league game of the 2016/17 season on a wet afternoon at Cae Ddol. Having struggled to raise a team for large parts of the season Ruthin were able to call upon a number of club legends in Paolo Tardivel, Dan Keefe and Adam Robson to fill the voids this week.
Playing into the driving rain first half Ruthin took the lead on 20 mins with a penalty from Centre Adam Robson. Shotton hit back almost straight away with a try which went unconverted. Shotton were beginning to take control in the forwards with their big pack. Ruthin thou scored next. Some big carries from Eoin Kent won Ruthin a penalty which Robson again converted. 6-5 at the break to the blues.
With the wind at their backs and going down the slope in the 2nd half Ruthin began to take control. The evergreen Andy Edwards marched his troops into the Shotton 22 and won another penalty for Robson to convert. 9-5 to the Blues. Robson then showed his class to score Ruthin's first try and converted to make it 'Adam Robson' 16 Shotton 5.
Outside half Jack Higgins was next on the scoresheet for the blues who were now complete control at 21-5. With Ruthin reduced to 14 men for the final 20 mins due to lack of players, Shotton came back into the game. The final score of the game was a late consolation for the visitors to make the final score 21-10.
