Nant Conwy 38 Rhuthun 12

The home side hit Ruthin hard in the first few minutes of this evening game at Nant as their fast backs and slick offloads cut through the Blues defence with Centre Delwyn Jones and wing Carwyn Davies scoring tries and Delwyn converting in the first few minutes.  The Blues composed themselves and in a lovely move 2nd row Sion Roberts sped down the wing and offloaded to prop Ryan Roberts to score with Nathan Jones converting.  At 14-7 down Rhuthun were mounting attacks but couldn’t convert into points and Nant’s organisation in defence and clinical finishing meant that tries were likely whenever the ball entered the Blues half of the field.  A further three tries without a Ruthin reply came from the home side before half time with hooker Ifan Hughes, full back Sion Pringle and scrum half Cai Jones getting tries and Delwyn converting two of them.  At 33-7 to Nant at half time it looked as though the home side might continue scoring freely in the 2nd half but the Blues had not given up and Nant had to defend well throughout the half against a concerted attack.  Reward for Ruthin came half way through the 2nd half when centre Tom Seddon grabbed an unconverted try.  Nant evened up the 2nd half tally with a try by flanker Ifan Pyrs 8 minutes from full time and although Ruthin battled hard till the final whistle there was no further score and Nant won 38-12 with a bonus point.  Despite the score this was an encouraging performance by the Blues in the 2nd half and they can now concentrate on their last 3 games and keeping away from the relegation zone.
