Llandudno 28 Rhuthun 24

One would have thought after the winter we have had that by the time we got to May Ruthin would not have to play another game on a soggy pitch in the pouring rain.  However it was not to be with the Blues last game of the season away at Llandudno on Tuesday.  Nevertheless despite the conditions both sides put on an a display of exciting, open, attacking rugby.  The home side were up 7 points with a converted try within the first few minutes and although fly half Callum Bennett kicked a penalty goal Dudno added to their tally with another converted try shortly afterwards.  The Blues upped their game and after a period of pressure and a missed penalty goal, prop Jason Humphreys got the honours with a pushover try which Bennett converted.  The Blues missed another penalty goal and then the home side added to their tally with a converted try and the players went in for half time with the score 21-10 in favour of Llandudno.  After the break Llandudno increased their lead with a converted bonus point try.  The Blues responded immediately with centre Emyr Gwynedd breaking through and offloading to hooker Danny Miller to score between the posts with Bennett converting.  Ruthin again exerted great pressure on a well-organised Llandudno defence with effective pick and run.  One of the home side’s players was sin-binned and the Blues took advantage of the extra man and wing Sion Roberts went over the whitewash with Bennett again converting.  With the score at 28-24 to Llandudno Ruthin could see a win in sight but Llandudno’s sterling defence held and the whistle blew for full time with the Blues having to be content with a loser’s bonus point.  This was a good display for Ruthin to end the season on particularly as 4 current youth team players Oliver Powell-Jones, Nathan Jones, Owain Jones and Declan Gabbana played a full part in the game.
