Ruthin 5 Bala 37

With only one point between the teams in the table this home match against Bala looked on paper as though it should be a close match but it was not to be and Bala came away from Caeddol with a 37-5 bonus point  win allowing them to jump to 3rd in the table with Ruthin remaining 7th.  For the first ten minutes play was pretty evenly matched.  The Blues had the first opportunity to score with a drive over the Bala line but was the ball was judged to be held up and Ruthin could not take advantage of the 5m scrum and play switched to their own half.  Bala were awarded a penalty and from the resulting lineout on Ruthin’s 22 drove over the Blues line and were awarded a penalty try converted by Rhydian Jones.   Play continued to move between the two 22 yard lines and towards the end of the first half strong running from the visitors led to their second try and the whistle blew with Bala 12-0 up.  Following the break Bala continued to attack and although there was some good tackling from the Blues the pressure eventually told.  After kicking a penalty goal the visitors went into a ‘purple patch’ of try scoring in a period of 20 minutes with four tries two of which were converted with Elan Rowlands and Rhydian Jones getting the points.  With 10 minutes to go a battered home team managed to raise their game and wing Josh Wilson ran through for the Blues only try.  However it was all too late for the Blues and Bala came away with a convincing and well- deserved win.  Ruthin Youth and second team were also playing Bala and fared better – both winning their matches.
