Ruthin 14 Bethesda 10

Ruthin stretched their unbeaten run to 5 games but had to work hard to get a win in Saturday’s match against Bethesda.  The only points of the first half went to Ruthin when winger Josh Wilson sped over the line in the first 10 minutes with fly half Callum Bennett converting.  The visitors came back strongly and the Blues had to defend well to retain their advantage.  After Bethesda missed a penalty goal kick from Ruthin’s 10 yard line fullback Ben Syme combined with centre Duncan Meikle to release Wilson along the touch line but he was forced into touch 5yds from the try line and Bethesda cleared from the lineout.  At the break Ruthin were 7-0 ahead but the points advantage was reduced when Bethesda’s fly half Kean Dry kicked a penalty goal just after the restart.  The game was moving from end to end and after a Ruthin lineout in their own half No8 Ben Taylor paired with replacement Cai Edwards to offload to centre Duncan Meikle for a fine try which Bennett converted.  The Blues applied further pressure which led to a penalty goal kicked which went wide but then the visitors were back on the attack and after a period in the home sides 22 prop Paul Thomas went over for a try which Dry converted.  With just 4 points separating the teams and a few minutes to go to full time both teams went down to 14 men with sin bins.  Both sides defences held and the whistle blew with Ruthin winning 14-10.
